Good Governance for Sri Lanka
It was the theme or mantra of the presidential election campaign of HE, the President, Maithreepala Sirisena in 2015. It is not a new concept but some countries especially developed countries had already implemented this concept in their governing process.
What is Governance?
United nation has defined it as a concept, simply “governance” means: the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented). Governance can be used in several contexts such as corporate governance, international governance, national governance and local governance.
What is Good Governance for a country?

“It is participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive and follows the rule of law”. It assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making. It is also responsive to the present and future needs of society.
Yes, there are few important areas in that definition to be highlighted. It covers transparency; assure minimizing corruption, views of minorities and the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making.
Conclusion
In Sri Lanka, it requires policymakers to study this concept in detail and requires bringing legislative changes in order to implement good governance, thus, ethical practices and transparency are key elements for this consideration.
